Dental Hygiene

If you wouldn’t like to have a smile filled with decaying teeth or even gaps due to a misplaced missing tooth, if you want to shun bad breath and increase your up-close and personal confidence, if you.d rather stay away from these scary root canals and other painful, not to mention very costly, teeth repair procedures, if you want to prevent unpleasant gum diseases then you.d better make proper Dental Hygiene part of your daily ritual.

Dental Hygiene may sound like a complex matter but it is actually quite simple. The first and most essential step in maintaining proper dental hygiene is teeth cleaning by brushing. Teeth should be brushed two or three times daily, at least once in the morning and once at night but ideally one should brush after each meal.

Nowadays, there are a multitude of toothbrushes on the market and your dental hygienist can help you pick the one that best suits your teeth. When teeth are cleaned, food deposits, tartar and plaque which lead to cavities, are removed. Good teeth cleaning will also prevent the notorious gingivitis and gum diseases which can eventually cause teeth to fall.

Even before the invention of the toothbrush, man has used organic tools such as tree twigs, thin animal bones and animal feathers for teeth picking and cleaning. In the early Islamic world, Muslims used a tree twig called Miswak for their oral hygiene, which also had antibacterial properties. Oral bacteria not only affect the health of the mouth but it can be associated with several overall health problems, such as the bacteria that we inhale can cause pneumonia, it can lead to heart problems, it can affect the weight of the fetus among some other health problems.
